Cysky Bike Shifter 3x7/3x8, links en rechts

The Cysky Bike Shifter covers left and right sides for 3x7 or 3x8 speed bikes. The brake combo is built into the lever, so you get a full set for your handlebar.

What you get

  • Left and right shifters
  • Brake combo
  • 3x7 or 3x8 speeds

Why a good shifter?

You shift dozens of times per ride, often with cold or wet hands. A shifter that clicks clearly and responds quickly makes the ride easier. A worn or dirty shifter skips gears or needs too much force.

On a drop bar you use a combined shifter and brake lever, often called a brifter. On an MTB or flat-bar gravel bike these are triggers you work with thumb and forefinger. Twist grips are less common. Bar-end shifters also exist, sitting in the end of the bar, mostly on touring bikes.

The shifter has to match your derailleur and the number of speeds. Each brand has its own cable pull ratio, so a Shimano shifter with a SRAM derailleur shifts badly. With electronic shifters the switches and battery set the feel, and they pair with a matching derailleur.

A brifter also brings the brake. For hydraulic disc brakes there is a small oil reservoir in the lever. For mechanical brakes it pulls a cable. So you need a brifter that suits your brake type.

How the types compare

The type of shifter depends on your handlebar and how much upkeep you want to do.

Mechanical brifterRoad or gravel drop barClear click, cable tension neededReplace cables and housing
Electronic brifterRoad or gravel drop barLight, same pressure each timeBattery and matching derailleur

Check that the shifter matches the brand and number of speeds of your derailleur.

Choose it if

  • You want to renew both sides of your handlebar in one go.
  • Your bike has a 3x7 or 3x8 drivetrain.
  • Your shifter skips gears, feels soft or no longer clicks.
  • You want to move to a different number of speeds or to electronic.

Choose something else if

  • With a modern 11 or 12 speed groupset you need a shifter from that range.
  • The problem is in the cable or housing: that is easier to fix than replacing the shifter.
  • You do not know which derailleur you have. With an unknown pairing, shifting often fails.

How to fit a shifter

  1. Check the pairing

Check that the shifter matches the brand and number of speeds of your derailleur and your brake type.

  2. Mount it on the bar

Slide or clamp the shifter onto the bar at a height your fingers can reach. Do not tighten it fully yet.

  3. Route the cable or wire

Route the cable in a gentle curve to the derailleur. For electronic systems, plug in the wires and check the pairing in the app.

  4. Tension and shifting

Set the cable tension with the barrel adjuster on the derailleur or shifter so each click gives one gear.

  5. Tighten

Tighten the clamp to the stated torque, usually 5 to 8 Nm. Test while riding and make sure the brake works properly.

Good to know

  • The listing mentions left and right, so confirm both levers are included.
  • Check that your brakes (V-brake or mechanical disc) suit the brake combo.
  • Replace cable and housing every year. A dirty or stretched cable is the most common reason a shifter shifts badly.
  • Mind the number of speeds: a 10-speed shifter does not drive an 11-speed derailleur well.
  • With hydraulic brifters the brake must be bled if you remove it or change the hose.
  • Electronic shifters have a battery you must charge or replace. Do not mix unknown brand combinations.
